blank (gas)

PSA S665S200 Stream Selection Unit User Manual

The PSA S665S200 Stream Selection Unit range is utilised when numerous sample streams need to be monitored. The unit consists of an appropriate number of 3-way Teflon switching valves for the number of sample streams to be monitored.
In some configurations, the system can also be used to deliver blank and calibration gas to a desired location to perform system bias testing.
In standby mode all sample streams flow to waste and the valves are non-energised. (In natural gas applications the wastes are capped and there is no sample flow in standby.) Valves are activated using the TTL lines from the PSA 10.525 Sir Galahad. When a stream has been selected the corresponding valve is energised using 12V dc. Once energised the valve is kept open using a holding voltage of approximately 4.5 V dc. The valve will be activated for the entire analytical cycle. Switching the valve will direct the sample flow through the manifold out to the Sir Galahad collection tube and, in stack gas type stream selection units, to the excess flow port.

Calibration Gas Inlets: Blank in corresponds to the blank gas from the Cavkit. Calibration Gas in should be connected to the high span gas from the Cavkit.

Calibration Gas Outlets: These should be connected to appropriate points in the sampling stream(s). Blank and high span are selected using the internal valve arrangement.

S665S200/P200: Two x two sample streams, two cal. gas delivery streams
This unit is normally used for selecting between Hg0 and Hgtotal from two different sampling locations (e.g. inlet and outlet of a control device). Four additional valves are used to supply blank and high span to the two sampling locations.

S665S200/P710: Two sample streams, two cal. gas delivery streams
This unit is normally used for selecting between two streams (e.g. Hg0 and Hgtotal) from one sampling location and to supply blank and high span to two different locations in the sampling stream (e.g. to the probe and to the local sample conditioning system).

S665S200/P320 + E100: two x two sample streams, three cal gas delivery streams
This unit is normally used for selecting between Hg0 and Hgtotal from two different sampling locations (e.g. inlet and outlet of a control device). Three additional pairs of valves are used to supply blank and high span to each sampling location and a local calibration channel.

geopiet Feb 9, 2014:
gaz zerowy / obojętny? All gas analyzers must be calibrated regularly. Most analyzers require zero calibration and span calibration.
The zero calibration is performed with a gas that contains none of the analyte gas to which the analyzer responds.
For example, pure nitrogen is perfect for zeroing either oxygen or carbon dioxide analyzers, because it contains neither oxygen nor carbon dioxide. Run a steady stream of nitrogen through the analyzer at a low, steady flow rate - typically about 100 ml/min - and adjust the zero control of the analyzer so that the analyzer's display reads zero. Zero calibration gases are therefore, as Steve Jobs would say, a no-brainer. And you can usually pick up very pure nitrogen from local gas suppliers for very little cost.
The span calibration is not as simple. A span gas has a precisely defined concentration of the analyte gas to which the analyzer responds. - http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1084602

Generally, the zero point of an instrument is first set using a blank gas (e.g. nitrogen), or the response registered for subsequent computational correction.
Then the calibration gas is introduced and the pitch of the calibration function is adjusted, or the response is registered for subsequent computational correction - http://www.coprocem.org/documents/emr-guidelines-disc.pdf - page 36
