English term
creaming agent
English to Dutch
Other
Food & Drink
Op de ingrediëntenlijst voor rijstcrackers staat:
creaming agent [tapioca syrup, hydrogenated palm oil, sodium caseinate, stabiliser E340), emulsifier (E472e)]

I.p.v. 'corn syrup' wordt in jouw geval 'tapioca syryp' (sweetener) gebruikt.
To replicate the mouthfeel of milk fats, nondairy creamers often contain vegetable-based fats, although nonfat nondairy creamers/whiteners also exist. Other common ingredients include corn syrup and other sweeteners or/and flavourings (such as French vanilla and hazelnut); as well as sodium caseinate, a milk protein derivative (from casein) that does not contain lactose. The use of a milk derivative prompts some individuals and organisations - such as vegans and Jewish dietary law authorities - to classify the product as "dairy" rather than nondairy. Those who rely on this classification will either not consume the product (e.g. vegans) or will not use or consume it in conjunction with any meat products (e.g. observant Jews)

Since my latest rant concerns my son’s preschool serving him a Tim Hortons hot chocolate for snack, I thought I would dissect the ingredients here. Don’t get me wrong, my boys are familiar with hot chocolate. I try not to deprive them of everything. However….a hot chocolate in our house consists of warm almond milk mixed with a teaspoon of pure cacao powder (Cuisine Camino), a spoon of pure maple syrup to sweeten, and a dash of cinnamon on top.
Thing 1 (my older boy of 4 yrs) used to love it….I ‘m not so sure since Tim Hortons has intervened. Tim Hortons Hot Chocolate ingredients label goes like this:
Sugar: being the first ingredient listed means that it accounts for the most weight of the product (38 grams is a small)
corn maltodextrin: highly processed corn product used as a thickener
cocoa: finally some cocoa as the third ingredient…..less cocoa then sugar
creaming agent (corn syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil, modified milk ingredients, dipotassium phosphate, monoglycerides, sodium aluminum silicate, acetylated tartaric acid, ester of mono and diglycerides) : Wow! This is quite the creaming agent. Why not just use milk? Ironically, the first ingredient in the creaming agent, corn syrup, promotes tooth decay.
sodium carboxymethyl cellulose: another thickener also used in non-food products such as laxatives, eye drops, and laundry detergent.
salt: okay, is salt really necessary in hot chocolate?
artificial flavor: All this other crap didn’t do the trick, so artificial flavor was added to make it taste like hot chocolate?
