Spanish term

acciones de fuerza

Spanish to English Other Government / Politics protest action
There must be an accurate rendering of this in the following context, but it escapes me. Its like "demonstrations", only stronger.

un Gobierno debilitado que, para tratar de evitar las acciones de fuerza en el país, les haga más concesiones

or

En algún momento Obama tendrá que enfrentar la realidad: ellos sólo entienden de acciones de fuerza. El resto es conversa de salón.

Thanks for your help

Discussion

James A. Walsh Aug 31, 2013:
"Civil unrest" ...is another one that springs to mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_disorder
Wendy Streitparth Aug 30, 2013:
Perhaps something more general like disturbances or turmoil would fit the bill.

No Phil They are not the same source, and I think you are right and my second example may be a bit misleading. The actions are things like road barricades. I think Heather's "show of force" was the phrase I was groping for.
philgoddard Aug 30, 2013:
Are these both from the same text? Who is "les" in the first example and "ellos" in the second? It sounds like the first one means "violence" and the second is "force".
