French term

DV en HMSM

French to English Bus/Financial Retail
Hi,

I am translating a newsletter regarding the launch of a new line of mints in France and I am struggling with the following phrase:

En juillet, nous avons attaint une DV de 87 en HMSM.

The previous sentence is as follows:

La produit a ete liste tres rapidement dans les points de vente, grace a la force de XXXX et la mobilisation sur le terrain.

I can't find a reference to HMSM anywhere, can anybody help?

Thank you.

@ Philippa, @ SafeTex No worries, thanks for your courtesy — but after all, I was unable to suggest a translation for the whole expression, hence why I only posted under 'discussion'.
Philippa Smith Aug 1, 2013:
@Tony Sorry Tony, I was busy searching and didn't see your discussion entry before I posted - not to trying to steal your suggestion honest! But yes, I think it is clearly talking about the grandes surfaces, and the weighted distribution of sales of these new mints in them.
LouC1482 (asker) Aug 1, 2013:
Hi, oh yes of course, that makes perfect sense! I have assumed that DV is Distribution Valeur.
Thank you for your help!
SafeTex Aug 1, 2013:
Post Tony I was just about to post hypermarché/supermarché as the answer but it is for Tony to do.
Tony M Aug 1, 2013:
Might it... ...stand for hypermarché/supermaché, do you think?

You say that is what you are having trouble with, but do you already know what DV is?

This Ghit gives an alternative spelling, which might tend to confirm my hunch:

Le Non Alimentaire en HM/SM - IRI

http://www.iriworldwide.fr/portals/0/articlePdfs/SymphonyIRI...

6 juil. 2012 - Dans notre dernière note de conjoncture, nous faisions état d'une baisse du CA des HM/SM sur le non alimentaire de l'ordre de. 8% en mai.

Unlikely but I suppose that all ideas are welcome and maybe the context will confirm or eliminate this idea

weighted distribution for hypermarkets and supermarkets

DV = distribution valeur = weighted distribution
HMSM = must be hypermarkets / supermarkets

I'm not entirely sure if using "xxx for xxx" is the right formula though...

Peer comment(s):

neutral B D Finch : How do you make it a "weighted distribution"? Wouldn't that be a "répartition pondérée"?//The "lexique" you reference is mistaken. That is not a "weighted distribution".

I'm going by the links I found: if you look at them they explain the concept
