OA

Portuguese to English Other Education / Pedagogy
Dear Colleagues:

I am translating a high school transcript from Rio de Janeiro. In the "observações" box the following abbreviation appears:

6° ano = OA

No other context is available.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Paul Dixon Jul 31, 2013:
High school? Is this really high school? As far as I know there is no sixth year in high school (segundo grau). More likely to be middle school which in Brazil runs from "quinta série" to "nona série" (I believe they are called "anos" now rather than "séries"). This may help the translation, for example "PA" could not be Arithmetic Progression as progressions are only taught in "segundo grau".

Objeto de Aprendizagem

There is in Portuguese the abbreviation "OA" for "Objeto de Aprendizagem".

Without more context it is difficult to be completely sure, but it seems to be it.
