Greek term

εργοστάσια παραγωγής ενέργειας πλέγματος με φυσικό αέριο

Greek to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
«Συνήθως η υπερβάλλουσα ζήτηση ενέργειας ικανοποιείται με την λειτουργία των εργοστασίων παραγωγής ενέργειας πλέγματος με φυσικό αέριο πέρα από τη συνεχή λειτουργία των λιγνιτικών εργοστασίων»

@ the ASKER.
Please consider the following. IF in your text you are given to understand that, there exists A SEPARATE GRID OF INTERCONNECTED GAS POWER PLANTS, which feed power into the MAIN GRID of the lignite Power plants, then your choice, by me, is right. BUT, your text is talking of ONLY excess power requirements fed into the MAIN GRID (of the lignite power plants), and that comes from GAS Power plants, which, NORMALLY, are ISOLATED power plants, NOT INTERCONNECTED TO EACH OTHER into a separate Grid, as the phrase ''natural gas grid power plants'' suggests. This phrase gives the correct impresion of the existence of a RING, A GRID OF POWER PLANTS USING NATURAL GAS, for the production of power and, by implication this Grid is connected to the other Grid.
My contention is, that if in your text there REALLY exists A SEPARATE GRID OF NATURAL GAS PLANTS, then your choice is correct. If NOT, you might have to reconsider. Big difference in the meanings.

For Michael’s additional information:
See Wikipedia’s definition of ‘electrical grid’ at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_grid
“An electrical grid is an interconnected network for delivering electricity from suppliers to consumers. It consists of generating stations that produce electrical power, high-voltage transmission lines that carry power from distant sources to demand centers, and distribution lines that connect individual customers.”
Peter Close May 3, 2013:
Having thought about this more last night, I think that my original answer was a more accurate translation of the Greek text. Literally translated, the Greek text appears to say, “power plants of [a] grid with natural gas”. This may imply that the natural gas plants have a separate grid or sub-grid of their own, because, if the intended meaning had been, “natural gas power plants of the [general] grid”, or, “natural gas power plants connected to the [general] grid”, the Greek text may have been written, “εργοστάσια παραγωγής ρεύματος φυσικού αέριου του πλέγματος”. My original text, “Natural gas grid power plants”, could mean either. It could either imply ‘a grid of natural gas power plants’ or ‘natural gas power plants of the grid’.

Transphy: "Grid connected natural gas power plants" is just a more succinct way of saying "natural gas power plants connected to the grid".

Transphy, Good morning and Happy Easter!
I would translate Michael’s sentence in the following way:
“Usually, excess energy demand is covered by the operation of grid connected natural gas power plants to supplement the continuous operation of the lignite plants”.

In my opinion, in this instance, the whole of the sentence has to be re-constructed to make any sense in English. Taking the phrase, as given, in isolation MIGHT not make good sense. So, personally, I suggest the following:-
**Normally, excess demand of energy in the Grid is satisfied by supplementing it with energy from natural gas power plants, in tandem with the continuous production from the lignite plants.
