German term
Abbau
German to English
Bus/Financial
Finance (general)
Consulting contract - Hel
or more specifically, CA-Abbau, as opposed to CA-Aufbau, where CA stands for current assets.
This term is used throughout a series of PPT training slides that I need to translate. Actually, the job has been split, so I only have half to translate. As a result, there is very little context, but I can provide you with a number of examples:
I understand that Abbau (abbauen) can have several different meanings and I have already searched Google/Proz for help, but I'm not sure if "reduction" is the correct translation, which is the nearest financial-related translation that I've come across. So it's time to ask the experts, please.
Thanks in advance,
Joanne

reduction or decrease
an Abbau is almost always a reduction or decrease of something. In this case it is a modification = a reduction of current assets for whatever reason
Example sentence:
In addition to the release of liquid funds through the continued reduction in assets, the Bank is refinancing itself through term money borrowings and drawing down

Hence
Auf-/Abbau: leveraging/deleveraging

If the above proposal seems too daring, you might like to opt for the safer disposal/acquisition of current assets
I think you are right to reject 'reduction' as too bland in this context. Even so, this option is currently riding high in public favour (see above) on +2, which qualifies it for automatic selection by the kudoz robot in 14 days.

Hi Joanne
Will you be returning to close this question yourself? At the moment, it is heading for automatic closure with the selection of ‘Abbau = reduction’, a solution that you yourself were not totally enamoured of. Perhaps the reassurance of the above colleagues was sufficient to convince you?
