"O zamanlar, sabahları kahvaltıya konan somunun her iki gıdığı ona aitti. Meryem, birinden birinin üzerine yapışmış küçük kağıt parçasını ayırmayı ihmal etmezdi."

I wonder what does it mean "birinden birinin üzerine yapışmış küçük kağıt"? how can a piece of paper stick from a loaf of bread to another?!!! (and why)
It is a part of "Bit Palas" by Elif Safak. The story follows Meryem pretends this piece of paper is a letter of daughter of a baker who is writing for Mohammad.....

Tim Drayton Apr 26, 2013: Correction Sorry, I see that I got that wrong - this is 'birinden biri' i.e. one of them; "the little peice of paper stuck onto one of them" - one of the two end pieces of the loaf.
Tim Drayton Apr 26, 2013: Details I understand the 'birinin' to mean 'somebody', i.e. 'the piece of paper that somebody stuck onto one of them [the end bits of the loaf]'. Strangely I remember there being an explanation by Raffi on this page before in which he noted that many bakeries in Turkey attach a small label to each loaf of bread - maybe I imagined it - but this is the label referred to here, and Meryem just pretends that it is a letter.

Tim Drayton Apr 26, 2013: Explanation I don't know if this is too late, but I have just read this section of the novel. Here one of the characters, Meryem, use to play a game with her small son. She took the label which is affixed to loaves of bread by the bakery and told her son that this was a letter from the baker's daughter and, if he eats up all of his breakfast, she will read it to him. The son now goes to school and is able to read these labels for himself and realises that he was being tricked.
