French term

coupe rase bâtarde

French to English Tech/Engineering Printing & Publishing Paper/Lumber
Not much context - coupe rase is 'clear felling', but the bâtarde is what I'm not sure about
Just comes up in a list of sources of wood for making cardboard
Proposed translations (English)
3 chips and shavings

Phil, I think you're on the right track with "indiscriminate". It is also defined as "hybrid". Perhaps "multiple sources"?

Jonathan Could you give us the list anyway? It might be helpful.
philgoddard Dec 10, 2012:
No, nothing to do with shavings. Rase doesn't mean shavings (that's copeaux), and it's cardboard, not chipboard.

I agree with Jonathan that "coupe rase" is "clear cutting/felling", but I can't put my finger on the precise meaning of "bâtarde". In this French-German question, it's translated as "coarse":

I wonder if it's something like "indiscriminate" - but that's implied by clear cutting anyway, which just cuts down everything in sight.
