English term
compounding
English to Spanish

Law (general)
Hi all
I always thought that 'compounding' meant "con agravio" o "con agravante". Now, however, I am confronted with this new use of the term (new to me at least!) and I am struggling to translate it. HELP!!
The text I am translating has to do with exports controls. The section I am working on is entitled "Compound penalties". The title is followed by the this text:
"Compounding is currently only applicable in the U.K. It as a means by which Customs can offer the exporter the chance to settle a case without being referred to the Crown Prosecution Services, thus saving the taxpayer and company time and legal fees."
And then we have a list of examples which simply reflect the definition mentioned above.
Does anybody know what term can be used in Spanish to translate "compound" / "compounding" in this context.
Many thanks
Quim

Compounding:
v. combinar, sintetizar; calcular cumulativamente; complicar, componer, hacer compuesto.
Good luck!

see here:
Our experience is not limited to export control and trade control cases governed by UK law.
We can advise companies on the merits of making voluntary disclosures to BIS and/or HMRC with the aim of avoiding a criminal prosecution and negotiating a civil settlement (sometimes called a “compound penalty”) instead.
Recently we have advised:
a UK company which successfully negotiated a £1,000 compound penalty as an alternative to being prosecuted for alleged breaches of Open General Export Licences arising from the sale of armoured vehicle components within the EU

It is not conclusive based on the given answers but, after reading the whole paragraph the asker quoted, I think that the right answer points to tax evasion penalties.
I pasted here an excerpt from that paragraph for your perusal as well as the link to the post itself.
Check if “tax evasion" fits your translation for “compounding".
I wish you luck!

No hace falte que te enfades tanto, intentamos ayudar a Joaquim, verdad? Pero ya lo cambié a neutral....
