A literal translation is tricky because North Chicago exists, and it has nothing to do with the Near North Side which is a neighborhoold near the Chicago downtown area. I was raised in Chicago and know the area well.

It is located north and east of the Chicago River, just north of the central business district (the Loop). To its east is Lake Michigan and its northern boundary is the 19th-century city limit of Chicago, North Avenue.
