Japanese to English Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology) database method
Unfortunately, this is simply in a list, with no context of any kind. Anyone have a clue what this is? I suspect some kind of "cover", but what is the "hi" part? What would the character be? Thanks for looking.

Discussion

Mami Yamaguchi Jul 19, 2012:
My acquaintance(a doctor of engineering) who works for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.in Kobe says a washing machine has many 蓋s. And he has never heard of hi-蓋 or 被蓋. If it is possible, it would be better to ask the client. He also says the mechanisms of washing machines differ according to the models though if it is typo and 上蓋, they usually use 'upper cover(lid)'as Nathan suggests(he checked this site). With the type of washing machines, there may be several parts they call ’上蓋' which may be translated differently(maybe rare).
cinefil Jul 16, 2012:
car washing machine or clothes washing machine?
cinefil Jul 16, 2012:
dchild (asker) Jul 15, 2012:
might be part of washing machine I just realized that there is a switch and a "frame" and the reference may be to a washing machine. Keep that in mind when trying to figure out what "hi" is. Thanks.

upper/top lid

I'm guessing that ヒ is an OCR mistake and this should be 上蓋, which would make sense for a washing machine. Depending on the design, this might be upper lid or top lid. Choose whichever fits your context best.

Cover/lid

Peer comment(s):

a washing machine main body includes an outer frame 1, a top cover 2 for covering the upper surface of the outer frame 1, an openable and closable lid 3 mounted on the top cover 2, and corner plates 4.
