Japanese term

自行

Japanese to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
自行の回収実績データに基づく推計値

銀行振出自行宛小切手

当局は銀行が自行の借り入れコストの実態を隠すために...

Just unsure about usage of this term, though it appears straightforward. For example in the first sentence, is it simply "statistics we collected" or am I missing something?

Thanks.

Discussion

Masae Harigae Jul 10, 2012:
自行 in the second sentence means "incoming" (to the bank).
Other 自行 are just "we", I think.
Harry Oikawa Jun 28, 2012:
No, I think the latter is the one. Sorry but I did not read Japanese sentense very well. I focused on the fact that 自行 means "we", "us" or "ours."

The first sentence is "statics based on our own collections performance data" and not "the statics data collected by ourselves."

the second sentece is "in order for the bank to hide their own cost..."

Concerning 自行 I think fumipi829 or Oikawa san's suggestions are both fine.

In the first sentence, though, double check from context that 回収実績データ is referring to "statistics we collected" and not "statistics on our [mortgage, etc] collections performance."

"self-reported"

Just read your other post on 金庫 and discovered the context for this post is probably LGD statistics. Based on that, I am now confident that my comment is correct regarding collections, but also now think 自行 in the first instance is "self-reported."

The fsa relies on banks' self-reported LGD statisitcs (btw, LGD stands for Loss Given Defaults) and the phrase it uses is 「LGDの自行推計」. See link.

Context is everything. Help us help you next time by providing the proper context.

Should have added... 自行 in the first case is 自ら行われた which would literally be "self-conducted." There is some ambiguity of what exactly is being conducted (statical calculations, reporting, etc), and the more descriptive choices all entail the others anyway, so I would go with the most common usage in such public-private statistics sharing which is "self-reported."

”行" part in this case refers to bank and short for 銀行.
Then, it makes sense to you, right?

Hello, JpBaugh,

As you imagined, "we" is just enough for this case.
