Japanese term
剥離

Medical
Medical (general)
surgery
大動脈・大静脈,尿管の剥離,固定術を施行し,精索動・静脈を結繋して手術を終了した
From a case report of a patient with retriperitoneal fibrosis. The aorta, vena cava and ureters have been constricted by the fibrosis, so the procedure is attempting to rectify this.
I have found 'stripping' in the context of varicose vein removal, but in this case you obviously wouldn't strip out the aorta!

I would prefer the use of term 'to free' from adhesions (fibrosis). other possibilities are 'to isolate', meaning to separte a structure from surroundings, and 'to dissect', as in sharp-dissection and blunt dissection techniques when you approach these structures through fibrosis.
good luck !

Comment: "Thanks. This makes the most sense. This procedure wouldn't involve any actual destruction (ablation) of vessels or tubules, it is merely removing them from the intrusiveness of the fibrotic lesions. "

detach
How about "detach" from the context of separating 大動脈、大静脈、尿管
I prefer the tone of "detach" as sounding less personal.

Thanks, that sounds plausible. |

separate/separation of ・・
I would go for 'seperate' or seperation of ・・・'as an equivalent to this term.
Other options are 'to ablate' (cinefil already posted it.) and 'free'(chris already suggests it).

Note from asker:
Well done for finding that term, it's a useful one to know, but in this situation I've decided to use 'free' to cover the vessels as well. |
