Skid-mounted quiere decir que las unidades son móviles y se pueden trasladar de un lugar a otro.
Sobre la otra pregunta, nunca he visto "unidad empaquetada"; podría ser que se trate de una unidad móvil, de una unidad integral que contiene todo lo necesario para operar por sí sola o que simplemente venga en su caja y envoltorio nueva de fábrica (de ahí que se llamaría empaquetada).
Siemre pueden haber múltiples opciones cuando el contexto es tan pequeño.

Stationary engines and Skidded engines were some what of the same. Stationary usually meant a power unit destined to be used in one place. ( full-base. ) Skidded ( could be moved to a certain location or another ) meant they could be used either stationary or remove the sub-base to to mounted on an engine truck. I.H.C. Also sold mounting engines ( skidded ) ( no sub-base ) To be used on engine trucks with saw rigs E.T.C. Or for traction engines. Only my opinon.
