Here's the definition of 'to paint the town red' from the NS OED:
paint the town red colloq. (orig. US) enjoy oneself flamboyantly, go on a boisterous or riotous spree.
Nothing to do with the colour here!
(personally, I'd have thought it more apt to say 'paint the town vomit yellow'!)

: Pour mes oreilles françaises, ces termes sont un peu vieillots et pas particulièrement excessifs (faire la noce/bringue = faire la fête, pas forcément "à mort")/Je crois qu'il y a une question de variante régionale aussi, pour "bringue"
