Dlaka nastaje tako što se stvara malo udubljenje u koži u vidu stubića koji se spušta u potkožni sloj. Tako se obrazuje koren buduće dlake. Iz korena počinje da niče začetak dlake, zatim on prolazi kroz sve slojeve kože i pojavljuje se kao stabljika dlake koja štrči iznad kože.
