French term

formule des chaudières

French to English Tech/Engineering Aerospace / Aviation / Space Solenoid valve test proce
Sorry for the mix of English and French, but here's the phrase:
The internal platen conduits have their dimensions limited with regards to the helium pressure. The stresses induced by the pressure are low, xxxxxxxxx conditions:
• pressure 50 bars
• Maximum conduit radius: 10 mm
• Minimum material thickness: 2.5 mm
La formule « des chaudières » gives a stress level of 20 MPa, i.e. less than 7% of the elastic limit.
'Boilermaker's fomula' doesn't seem quite right, or am I wrong.
TIA Chris.

@CC Thanks for this. I was quite certain that there isn't a 'boiler formula' as such. This relates to a series of holes in a platen, see other question, so in fact is a series of holes that are under pressure. No boiling water just helium gas at very low temperature.
chris collister Oct 31, 2011:
There must be several hundred formulae (stress, strain, creep, fatigue, you name it) for both thin and thick-walled pressure vessels, most of which can be applied to a boiler (which is just a hot pressure vessel). Ypu could just call it "pressure vessel stress formula", or maybe "the formula used for boilers" if you want to keep the chaudière bit.
