Duchamp es el artista que empieza a usarlo en su obra -los urinales, el secador de botellas, etc.- y a partir de él muchísimos artistas han incluido algún objeto encontrado que, por el contexto que le da el artista o su presencia en un espacio de exhibición (museo, galería) adquiere otro significado.
