Transit lounge / transit area

I have always known connecting flight areas of airports to be called "transit lounges". If this risks being too specific, "transit area" will avoid the confusion that might be caused by the associations we have with a "lounge" (eg sofas, tables etc).
Example sentence:

"...you just pile off the plane, line up in the corridor to go through US immigration and get back on the plane from that TRANSIT LOUNGE. There are no smoking facilities there but you won't need any US$..."

"If you area going to wait for a few hours at the airport's international TRANSIT AREA you will need to apply for an airport transit visa."

transfer area

This is a more common name for where people spend time on transfers. "connecting flights area" could be taken as a place where aircraft sit.
