English term

curtailed

Non-PRO English to French Other Medical (general)
This patient has symptoms that have proven recalcitrant to treatment with paracetamol. Therefore, administration of an NSAID such as diclofenac 50 mg twice daily after food would be preferable.
This has to be combined with supportive measures.

Physical therapy, weight loss and exercise are appropriate interventions in this patient in view of the fact that the patient is overweight and is capable of undertaking adjunctive self-management measures under guidance.

Walking aids are important in this patient in view of the age and disability factors. Difficulty in using stairs and in walking for longer distances and durations had been curtailed subsequent to the development of osteoarthritis in this patient. Facilitating mobility and physical activity in this patient also contributes to empowerment of exercise and weight loss.

Discussion

SJLD Apr 2, 2011:
very clumsy English The author meant to say IMO:
The patient experiences difficulties using stairs and walking for longer distances. In fact, durations (of walking) had been curtailed (limited)subsequent to the development of osteoarthritis in this patient.

Using stairs and walking ......
or
..... had been subsequent ....

agree FX Fraipont (X) : tout à fait d'accord - soit "ability to use stairs has been curtailed" soit "difficulty in using stairs has got worse" ou qqch comme ça.

Peer comment(s):

neutral FX Fraipont (X) : curtail: to cut short; cut off a part of; abridge; reduce; diminish.

retail : entraver , restreindre

what was i thinking ? sorry , curtail , not retail , haha

Difficulty in using stairs and in walking for longer distances and durations had been curtailed subsequent to the development of osteoarthritis in this patient.
