Danish term

såfremt amtet ikke skal afløfte en del af Århus Kommunes aktier

Danish to English Bus/Financial Transport / Transportation / Shipping at afløfte aktier
'Afløfte aktier'? Is this not just simply 'use' Århus Kommune's shares? Or is there another useful financial term?
Proposed translations (English)
4 deduct
3 provided the county is not to exempt part of the City of Aarhus' shares

Discussion

phil curry (asker) Mar 31, 2011:
The wider context is the formation of a new company under Aarhus Airport and the question is the extent to which Århus Amt wish to be involved as stakeholders (or medejere - co-owners)

deduct

The term "afløfte" was also mentioned om KudoZ May 2009!

Always a good idea to check previous KudoZ questions before listing a term!

Good luck!
Note from asker:
I was thinking of deduct and had already used it - just getting a concensus. Thanks for your answer.

Maybe ... Cf. www.ordbogen.com

Or it could mean 'take over', depending on the wider context.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Michael Davies : I'm not sure that 'afløfte' kan be understood to mean 'exempt' in this context - it is a different matter in connection with VAT.

In my understanding, exempt can mean 'to allow not to comply with what is normally expected, e.g. to pay or do something' in any number of contexts, not just VAT.
