Based on your description, we called that the EL-room (Electrical room)

Thank you, here's some additional information: The drawings show a room called the 'EL-GANG', which is to have its door removed, and inside this room are two other sections labelled 'EL'. I'm assuming that these are the access hatches that Per mentions, since no doors have been drawn in. Thanks for your input :)

Worked in shipbuilding for several years in Norway and US. We used a corresponding English expression "cable way" meaning an area which held the cable trays (kabelbro) which which was accessible by door.
