English term

failed response xml

English to French Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology) API info service
Sentence in a blog for developers "the failed response xml shown above had an error in the second operation." Je ne vois pas ce dont il s'agit (et je n'ai rien au dessus). Merci de votre aide.

Discussion

Martin Cassell Dec 13, 2010:
well, that's not much to go on, but it makes me tend towards thinking that "failed response" is not "response which failed", but "response to the 'failed' condition", so your term should be read as "the XML for the response in the case of failure": perhaps "le code XML de réponse aux échecs/en cas d'échec".

But honestly it is not possible to be definitive with so little evidence. I hope the wider context of the rest of your translation will help.
<soap:Body>
..<soap:Fault>
....<faultcode>...</faultcode>
....<faultstring>...</faultstring>
....<detail>
......<ApiExceptionFault
J'espère que ça vous aide
Martin Cassell Dec 13, 2010:
context It would all be so much easier if we could see the XML code in question
Martin Cassell Dec 13, 2010:
syntax assuming that the source text given is (a) free from mistakes and (b) native-written, by far the most plausible syntactic analysis for this term is NP+NP, the first NP being in apposition and qualifying the second NP:
NP1(failed response) + NP2(XML) = XML relating to failed response

It's a question of word order. To read the component "XML" as somehow adjectival is to misunderstand the syntax of EN compound noun phrases.
GILLES MEUNIER Dec 13, 2010:
Martin Cassell Dec 13, 2010:
is the code available? clearly the sentence refers to some XML code.

my best guess, without seeing it, is that this is the XML code generated in the event of a failed response: "le code XML correspondant à un échec de réponse" or something like that.
GILLES MEUNIER Dec 13, 2010:

Peer comment(s):
