This is the title of a cover letter.
I've seen spontaneous, unsolicited (which seems a bit brash to me), independent, even inititative (which seems to be used mainly in Europe.) Does anyone know what it's usually called in the US?

This is common procedure to apply for a job with a company even though that company has no vacancy/hasn't posted a vacancy announcement anywhere, e. g. on the web or in a newspaper

This is what a book by Langenscheidt "Erfolgreich Bewerben auf English" S. 44 calls the Initiativbewerbung.

Well according to book I mentrioned you don't actually give your letter this title, you say something like "Enquiry about career opportunities inXXX Company" or you may not give your letter any title at all, just start like this: "Following ...... I am writing to enquire about career opportunities...."
