a serious and single-minded devotion

English to Persian (Farsi) Art/Literary Philosophy
Hi My friends, this is a term that I cant find any suitable translation for in Persian. The dictionary suggests مصمم-بااراده for single minded that I think is not good enough. is it OK to translate it to "تک نگرشی" ?
thanks in advance for your help
whole sentence is as follow:
Most of his recorded sayings drive at the cultivation of a serious and single-minded devotion

قاطعانه، از دل و جان

Dear Ehsan,

Please notice that we can't break a couple adjective into its forming parts and later translate it word for word.
"single minded" means very "DETERMINED" or "committed" in English while تک نگرشی is far from this connotative meaning! Furthermore, if you google this Persian adjective, you will not find satisfactory results!

وقف خود به صورت جدی و مصمم

Dear Ehsan,

I think the old مصمم would be better than تک نگرشی here. The writer is trying to say that the person has devoted himself to achieving a "single" goal in a serious way. But I believe the strong will of the person is of much greater importance than the person's one--and not two or more--goals. Additionally, تک نگرشی may produce a negative feeling in the reader that the person doesn't, for example, allow for more than one "attitude" or "outlook" in every aspect of life.

وفاداری جدی و مصمم

مصمم is probably the closest word here for single-minded.

Single-minded has a very positive connotation. تک نگرشی to me would indicate a "single point of view" or maybe "narrow minded" which would be negative.

Devotion here has no religious connotation. While according to the dictionary وقف can mean devotion, it usually means a "religious endowment". Religious devotion usually means some kind of prayer or prayer service.

There seems to be no exact equivalent in Persian for devotion here. The best word I think is وفاداری

See dictionary.com for the meanings of devotion.

1.

3.

4.
Often, devotions. Ecclesiastical . religious observance or worship; a form of prayer or worship for special use.

sorry...this is the link http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/devotion

For anyone not familiar with this site, it is a gold mine. It also has a thesaurus, which I often find more useful than the dictionary.
