Adesione patologica contratta tra organi o visceri contigui in seguito a processi infiammatori (infezioni, sostanze irritanti) o interventi chirurgici.È costituita da tessuto fibroconnettivale, formato sui materiali prodottisi con l’infiammazione (per es. essudati incompletamente riassorbiti durante la fase di guarigione) o con il trauma chirurgico. L’estensione delle aderenze è per lo più proporzionata al tipo, all’intensità e alla durata del processo infiammatorio. Il loro aspetto può variare da quello di una semplice e sottile briglia, a quello di vaste membrane sclerotiche che non permettono più di individuare un piano di separazione tra le strutture coinvolte.La loro presenza può essere ben tollerata dall’organismo, ma spesso la loro estensione e la ridotta mobilità che ne consegue, possono richiedere un intervento chirurgico atto a migliorare la mobilità e/o i sintomi dolorosi esempi sono le vaste aderenze pleuriche che non consentono la libera espansione del polmone o quelle coinvolgenti gli organi addominali che possono causare sindromi occlusive.Con l’avvento delle nuove tecniche di chirurgia mininvasiva (laparoscopia, toracoscopia) è possibile risolvere tali patologie in maniera meno cruenta assicurando un decorso postoperatorio più rapido."
