As Kphred says, there are quite a few possibilities, do you think its important to mention museum/museal? To me its more the atmosphere that we associate with a museum, hushed, solemn, serious, even reverent - depends on the target group but would find museal a bit too unusual for a text aimed at tourists/normal visitors etc - I would maybe go for "solemn, almost religious/sacred..."

The atmosphere of the space is established by the austere or practially sacred lighting environment

This is just a suggestion. Synonyms can be inserted practically everywhere. You may want to add some commas.

This is the slightly freer translation option.
I said "shrine" instead of church because a shrine is a sacred structure but relates better to "museum".

I thought I'd better translate the whole sentence to give it context.
I translate materials about exhibition spaces using words like "museal" and "sacral" all the time (in German, that is. I avoid using the words "museal" and"sacral" in English.)

The space owes its atmosphere in equal measure to the lighting, which is like that of a museum or even a shrine, and a thrumming sound like an aeroplane motor.

Museal

Meanwhile the term museal also became a qualification for the kind of art lending to the sterile, imposing and authoritarian nature of the architecture as well as the cultural circumstances of the institute, which exercises a certain power over the cultural inheritance but also over the development of art. The qualification is conceived both positive (acknowledgement, quality, established) and negative (adaptive, isolated, established).

In common language museal means: 'suitable for the museum' (a museal piece).
