colleague
A colleague is defined as "a person who is member of your class or profession", so I see no problem using this term in this context, and I have seen it used before.

Colleague = חבר= עמית
Collegue does not mean on opposing sides. It means עמית which is another word for friend, which is the correct word to use in this context.

my friend
I'm pretty sure I've heard lawyers (in Canada) using "My friend" in legal proceedings in this context, but this evidence is merely anecdotal.
