Discussion

Hermeneutica (asker) Jun 25, 2010:
@ Bernd and Michael @ Bernd - weiss nicht, geht eigentlich um Gewerbe- / Industriebrandsanierung. Autos koennen natuerlich auch dazu gehoeren.
@ Michael: Again, I have no idea if they are electric, manual etc. [it isn't stated anywhere] so I can't specify. At this point all suggestions are appreciated.
Michael Harris Jun 24, 2010:
You have not specified if they are electric / pneumatic, etc. that is why I have just made a general suggestion
Bernd Runge Jun 24, 2010:
salvage Wenn das hier um die Wiederverwertung von Autos, etc. geht kann es entweder die abrasive cut-off saw sein, oder, wenn es sich hier wider Erwarten um einen Brennschneider handelt, die cutting torch.
Hermeneutica (asker) Jun 24, 2010:
@ Richard: yeah ... I had myself thought of "jaws of life" and rejected that option with your same argument ...

cutting device

could it be as simple as that?
Note from asker:
Maybe - all that came to my mind was that or "specialised cutting tools" but these are special things firefighters and other rescue services also use ... I am sure they do have a name :-(
Peer comment(s):

agree Richard Stephen : Perhaps 'machine' instead of 'device'

Thanks Richard
agree Rolf Keiser : for a salvage company I would refer to it as a "tool"

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I think I ended up using "specialised heavy duty cutting tools" as it turned out not to be important in the greater scheme of things, not to mention all the other oddities in the text ... Thus unfortunately no sensible glossary entry."

neutral Richard Stephen : This is definitely a possibility, but IMO too risky for lack of context - could also be something like a heavy duty angle grinder (google "trennschneider")
