Spanish term

empeno

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
This has to do with a retention plate for a gas injection system and appears twice next to a drawing of the plate as "empeno max. 0,5 mm".

There is a small table next to the drawing with the headings

Medidas del porta empaquetadura
Local
Patrón
Medido

followed by X = 0,5 mm (ejecutar desempeno)

Unfortunately I can't provide any more context, but maybe someone will have an idea of what's meant by "empeno" here.

Discussion

Robin Ward (asker) Jun 12, 2010:
Yes, I'm sorry if I misled anyone, both empeno and desempeno are written with the tilde (the problem is that I can't find the "n" with the tilde anywhere).

So - does "ejecutar desempeno" mean:
- to straighten the plate, or
- to carry out a performance test?

I presume that Antonio's suggestion "bending" is correct.

Desempeno o Desempeño ?? Krokodil
I think there can be a typo in your source text.
Kindly ask you to write down the longest possible part of your text in the source language well before "empeno max. 0,5 mm" and well after X = 0,5 mm (ejecutar desempeno).
The reason of my suggestion is that in your other question you wrote: "Control de Mantenimiento/Desempeno - Sistema de Inyección de Gas" and there Desempeno MUST be written Desempeño what means Performance in that context.
Regards :))
