Japanese term
段落とし
Japanese to English
Tech/Engineering
Manufacturing
Molding defects
This appears in a quality control sheet for manufacture of an injected molded product.
The 検査項目 is ゲート残り (gate burr) and the 判定基準 for this is 「段落とし以下」. I've no idea what this means.

I believe this is a situation similar to that in the blogspot reference. The gate is where the metal (?) enters and is that last place where it hardens. It might also be "depth of the depression." The bottom line is that the height of the gate that remains should not rise above the top surface of the molded product.

Comment: "Thanks. You gave me some useful ideas. The client's going to have to visit the factory to find out exactly what this means!"

Just a guess

My mistake. The example sentence should read "gate burr does not exceed.....mm"
There are a few examples on Google.

Example sentence:
Gate burr shall not exceed.
Note from asker:
Thanks. I know that it means 'should not exceed' something, its just a question of what that something is! Termination point sounds plausible. |
Thanks for your help on this. I meant to give you the points but somehow selected the wrong answer. Ah well. |

(だんおとし)Step down
段落とし以下 may be "below the step" or "after the step'. It would be better if we have the full sentence.
Note from asker:
Thanks. There is no full sentence. This is just a quality control standard in a table. |
Discussion
If not then perhaps "does not exceed termination height" will work?
Here is a link:

But from my experience in manufacturing. Burrs, flash, etc., on certain parts, are allowed to be of a certain length and still pass inspection criteria.
Perhaps "within...mm" will work?
