Spanish term

caza al vuelo

Spanish to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Competition Shooting
This is one category of competition shooting that an association means to take under its regulatory wing. Here's the full list:

From my research, it appears that "shooting on the wing" is a rather antiquated term, and I don't know if I should use it. Also, I don't believe this is box shooting, as I've done things for this client before, and they usually talk about "tiro al pichón" for that.

Is anybody a gun enthusiast, hunter or shooting sportsman who can give me a hand here?

Bird Hunting

I must disagree with Robert. While "bird hunting" may seem like an inaccurate translation for caza al vuelo, I am quite sure the idea is shooting animals that are in the air, which is pretty much confined to birds, isn´t it? I do not think the idea is shooting animals FROM the air. If you run an image search on "caza al vuelo" you will find lots of images of bird hunting, and none of anyone hunting from the air.
Note from asker:
The client appears to be organizing the sorts of shoots you can do from within easy reach of the clubhouse, with a referee standing by, not hunting from a plane. So I agree with you that "aerial hunting" is unlikely.

AKA: hunting from the wing/wing hunting/wing shooting/shooting from the wing..... Aereal hunting is probably the most widely used term and it covers a broad spectrum of types of fixed wing, as well as other options for hunting as such.....

Hi Alayna,

Justin is correct, I had included wingshooting in my answer, but I had the idea of hunting from the air, but the correct idea is shooting animals as they fly overhead such as doves, pigeons, partridge, ducks, geese however the term is wingshooting....... Please see:
