Re 'closeness' and knowing the Laotian situation I understand it as 'close to the outside world' hence less affected by the world wide crisis - explanation by a non-native in English -)
And just before comes, ... "closeness?" of the country's economy" – what does that mean? Close to another/ tightness maybe?
