legal controversy concerning "simple past"

English to Italian Law/Patents Law (general) notarization
Is anyone acquainted with signature authetication before a notary in California?

QUOTE
State of California, County of Orange

In California on the ..., before me, a Notary Public in and for the above state and county, personally appeared..., proved to be the person named in and who executed the foregoing instrument (power of attorney), and being first duly sworn, such person acknowledged that he or she executed said instrument for the purpose therein contained as his or her free and volountary act and deed.

XY Notary Public

UNQUOTE

NB: The notary signature is authenticated by the CLERK RECORDER'S OFFICE in Santa Ana.

MY QUESTION:
Does anyone know for certain if the signature has to be affixed on the document BEFORE THE NOTARY or if it can be affixed also in the company's offices where the document was drawn-up and then compared with the identity papers by the notary?

If it can be just compared the power of attorney would be, according to the Italian Law, null and void.

OR in other words:

The power of attorney has to be just typed in the notary's office?

Legal meaning of execute is:
to perform all necessary formalities as to make and sign a contract or sign and deliver a note

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

As far as I know, the function of a Notary in any Country is to certify that the signatory was effectively the person described and that he did sign without cohercion. Now, whether the person was effectively present or not, the Notary has certified he was: the contract has full validity also according to Italian Law.
BTW this is one of the rare occasions when V.I.Managers get off their chairs to sign a document, much to their dismay... The procedure, in my experience, is faithfully followed everywhere.
