German term

U-Größe S-Größe

German to English Marketing Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Trouser sizes
These are track suit pants sizes. My research so far suggests that 'U-Größen' stands for 'Untersetzte Größen'. In other words, sizes for people with shortish legs and largish waists. I therefore assumed, maybe, 'short'. I've made no progress with 'S-Größe'. The sizes that are referred to in my document are:

N-Größen 44,46,48,50,52,54,56,58,60
U-Größen 24,25,26,27,28
S-Größen 94,98,102,106,110

I've been wondering if it's simply (in the order of the text above) Regular, Short and Long. Can anyone confirm this?

Chest size and trousers... The surprising statement in the Wikipedia article is this:
"Die Zahlangaben der europäischen Größen basieren auf dem Brustumfang."
This appears to apply even in the case of trousers!

Equivalence Thanks Colin and Helga. The German terms seem to me to cover two elements: leg length and waist size. The English terms I have suggested cover just the one: leg length. As far as I know (not being a man) in English we'd normally give two figures, e.g. 30L. Or do we have a closer equivalent?
Colin Rowe Apr 16, 2009:
S-Größen, etc. I can reveal that the S-Größen are indeed for longer legs and slimmer waists (my size being 110!)
N-Größen 44,46,48,50,52,54,56,58,60 are indeed the "normal" sizes, while the U-Größen 24,25,26,27,28, as you correctly stated, are for those of lesser stature bot not necessarily lesser girth!

Short sizes, Long sizes

To answer your original question, the simple answer is "yes"! The sizes you refer to are "Normal" (or Regular), "Short" and "Long" in that order. For a more detailed explanation, see the section "Herren" in the Wikipedia article I quoted below. This explains the basis used for specifying the different sizes in the German system.
