German term

Flopvermeidung

German to English Bus/Financial Construction / Civil Engineering
This is a term (along with combinations like "Flopanalyse" & "Flopvermeidungmaßnahmen") the company is using to decide if they should cut their losses and get out of a contract or continue on. It also involves analysing past "flops" to decide what went wrong. "Flop Avoidance" just sounds rather unprofessional to me. Is there a term for this in construction already? Or does anyone else have a better suggestion than "flop"? Thx.

Discussion

diamond 102 (asker) Apr 1, 2009:
It's in a couple of documents. It's part of a new job title and department. There is a job description to be sent out in Asia, a PPT presentation for internal use to describe the process, why it's so important, etc. and some internal documents/forms to try and categorize what is a "flop." i.e. if there are these characteristics, assign 2 points.

As usual, it's the English words that German has borrowed (hijacked?!) that give us translators the biggest headaches. Nicole, could you tell us what kind of document this is? Who will be reading it?

failure avoidance/prevention

kommt darauf an, ob man an den Faktoren etwas ändern kann (prevent), oder nur noch reagieren (avoid).

agree casper (X) : 'Failure analysis' and 'failure prevention measures' in the other combinations mentioned by the asker. Of course, more context (by the asker) would be more than welcome :-)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Sometimes the answer is so obvious... Thanks! I'll probably be going for prevention since that's the company's aim, although they've been using the term "Flop Avoidance" in English. "
