Realgymnasium:
Das Realgymnasium wurde Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts in Deutschland eingeführt. Es stand zwischen der Oberrealschule und dem Gymnasium.
Im Gegensatz zu humanistischen Gymnasien, welche einen altphilologischen Schwerpunkt setzen (insbesondere auf Altgriechisch und Latein) und neusprachlichen Gymnasien (Englisch und mindestens eine weitere lebende Fremdsprache), fokussieren Realgymnasien auf die naturwissenschaftlichen Fächer (Realien) BE - Bildnerische Erziehung, Biologie, Mathematik, Physik, Chemie und Darstellende Geometrie. Sie sind somit in begrenztem Umfang mit technischen Gymnasien vergleichbar.

I studied in the USA and I know that they do not have such a thing. In any high-school students choose their subjects and thus form their own Realgymnasium or Gymnasium.
