German term

als nicht unbedenklich einstufen

German to English Tech/Engineering Medical: Dentistry Article on All-Ceramic Dental Materials
"Allgemein ist die Langzeitstabilität glashaltiger Systeme als nicht unbedenklich einzustufen."

This seems to be saying that in general, the long-term stability of ceramics containing glass should be classified as "not harmless". I don't understand what they mean by that. Or maybe I misunderstand "nicht unbedenklich". Wider context is all-ceramic dental materials. TIA for any assistance you can provide.

must be classified as being not without problems

undenklich can also mean "without problems", "no cause for concern"

Basically, the author is implying that the long-term stability glassy systems COULD be a cause for concern/or could be a problem.

These double negatives are often used in German to imply uncertainty.

The "must be classified...." is rather wieldy, so may paraphrasing it may be better.
e.g.
Generally, the long-term stability of glassy systems may be a problem/may be a cause for concern.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "First of all, my thanks and commiserations to Kim for a helpful answer that deserves points in many ways. However, like Kay, I liked Gillian's suggestion at the end, and it seemed to work well. On that basis therefore, her answer was "most helpful" to me. So thanks Gillian and sorry Kim! Thanks also to the others who contributed a suggestion."

not absolutely safe

This is a double negative. Unbedenklich is harmless.
In general the long-term stability of ceramics containing glass must be classified as not completely harmless.

Another way to phrase it might be \"not without cause for concern\" from bedenklich - questionable.

Sorry, Rowan, I wasn\'t paying attention to your question - how can stability be unsafe? Maybe the long-term stability must be called in question? Bedenklich is something that is questionable. The idea then would be that it is questionable whether it will be stable in the long term.

agree Steffen Walter : with your last addition (long-term stability may not be taken for granted / may be at risk)

agree Nancy Arrowsmith : probably in the context of popular concern with amalgan, etc., which is not "unbedenklich"

just confirming Kim's add-ons

The way I would understand it is that the very fact that these systems offer long-term stability is the reason for concern
