layered sutures

Got to be:

In all patients, the prosthesis was secured by double-layered sutures, with the first row of buttressed sutures passing through the leaflet or sutured to the left ventricular muscle and through the sewing cuff of the prosthetic valve. The second row of running sutures was then placed through an extended annular equine pericardial cuff of the prosthetic valve and the supraannular left atrial wall.
Example sentence:

Two-layered sutures were performed. (AB = the shaded area is the zone that was still attached to the thigh; 1 = the first layer of skin suture; 2 = the second layer suture through the fascia.)

From 1990 they set the task to study prospectively the results of using the new surgical technics--one-stored, two-layered suture for reconstruction of the uterine wall during caesarean section.
