Spanish term

intimidad vs privacidad

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Website terms and conditions
Derechos Personalísimos: derecho a la protección de la identidad, derecho al honor, a la intimidad y a la privacidad, a la no discriminación, a la integridad psíquica, y la imagen.

What is the distinction they are making here between intimidad and privacidad? I am not aware of many terms and conditions in English that refer to "intimacy"...I would have translated this as privacy...but privacy is the next term.

Thanks!

Intimidad vs. privacidad It makes no sense to translate 'intimidad' as 'intimacy' in this context. In English (at least US English) 'intimacy' has to do with a quality or dimension of interpersonal relationship, and this doesn't fit in a list of legal rights.

Can you specify exactly what you need, these are easy words.

privacy and confidentiality

I really don't think that "intimacy" works at all as a legal construct. I would therefore translate "intimidad" as "privacy" (i.e., the right to a sphere of activity protected from others) and "privacidad" as "confidentiality" (i.e., the right to restrict others' access to personal *information* about oneself).

Suerte.

agree Adrian MM. (X) : other way round: confidentiality is the way a law of privacy has been introduced into the UK.

agree jacana54 (X) : Derecho a la intimidad=right to privacy. Y coincido que privacidad refiere a aspectos de la personalidad que en realidad son visibles, pero que uno puede no querer que se difundan.
