English term

air permitting

English to German Tech/Engineering Human Resources
The expression is used in one of the questions in a HR-questionnaire: Do you have experience in *Air Permitting*?

The questionnaire consists of a long list single questions such as the one above and "Do you have experience using HMI?" "Do you have experience with MRP-Systems?".

I have not the slightest idea what air permitting means - is there someone out there who knows their way round technology and engineering terms? Your help would be much appreciated.

Discussion

hazmatgerman (X) Oct 23, 2008:
I doubt air quality regs feature in a HR questionnnaire (unless within a competent authority). Could this be a way of saying "letting off steam", i.e. airing grievances? Regards.
David Moore (X) Oct 23, 2008:
Forget these two little contributions of mine, Katja and ntext are both on the right track, I think. See also http://www.allbusiness.com/government/government-bodies-offi...
Daniela Gieseler-Higgs (asker) Oct 23, 2008:
Hi David, the text actually seems to alright, my gut feeling is that it is not a third-language translation. There doesn't seem to be an obvious solution, I'm not sure about the suggestions below as there is no further context - so I will need to get back to the client, I suppose...
David Moore (X) Oct 23, 2008:
I think "Air ventilation" might be a more plausible possibility.
David Moore (X) Oct 23, 2008:
Daniela, can you find out whether this is another of those dratted third-language translations? If so, this may be a silly mistake in translating "Air conditioning" for example. I cannot for the life of me imagine what might be meant by "Air permitting".

wild guess

Ich kenne Air Permits/Air Permitting als "Genehmigungen im Rahmen der Luftreinhaltung"

habe aber nicht die leiseste Idee, ob das hier passen könnte bzw. zutreffend ist.
Note from asker:
Danke, werde mal nachfragen, ob das in die richtige Richtung geht.
Thanks for your answer, Katja, I think you were one the right track. In the end, I never got clarification by the client, but just the note "leave it as is" - very unsatisfying, but I've still got no idea if the suggestions were right in this context.
Peer comment(s):

agree David Moore (X) : I think you earned the agree, you just got there first...I think it ought to be "air permiting" (only one "t", purely to facilitate comprehension). Katja, my bet is it will be "experience in making applications for clean air permits" or similar

Thanks David. I`m curious to know the answer from the client

Luftqualitätsgenehmigungen

Mit "air permitting" ist das Gewähren von Genehmigungen gemeint, die sich auf die Reinhaltung bzw. Verschmutzung der Luft beziehen.

Also etwa:
