I was trying to find something leading to "picking on me" or in the same line, but decided to suggest this option, which needs to be measured against your context. It might work. The idea is that the character was chosen by the interlocutor because of some nosy "cats".
I also thought about the possibility of "me sermoneas", but I believe it is quite far fetching, as it is based on "pitch" as the presentation that people do to gain the favor of a client...

Según el diccionario de la Real Academia Española, "agarrar" se usa en la lengua coloquial y su sinónimo es "reñir" (lo que interpreto por el contexto de la oración del texto origen). De todas maneras, creo que la versión expuesta anteriormente ("te metes conmigo") también puede ser una buena opción según el contexto total.
