ground brush
Kohle would be an (electrically conductive) brush of some sort. Like the black graphite "brushes" (actually lumps of round or rectangular material) found in electrical motors. So this is probably a ground brush, a piece of graphite that establishes the ground connection. Possibly to a rotating or sliding conductor.

Comment: "You are right it's not about the material but about the function. I go along with your suggestion. Thanks to you all for your help."

Auch möglich in Abwandlung von Albrecht: earth(ing) brush. Die "Kohle" würde ich weglassen, da es sich hier um die Funktion und nicht um das Material geht.

: Yes. Agree. I mentioned the "carbon" for illustrative purposes, because in English people are familiar with carbon brushes, but the actual material isn't an issue here, only function. Earthing would be British English, ground (ing) would be U.S. English.
