German term

freies Spiel

German to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Soccer
obviously "free" is not proper here, but what is -- can't come up with anything.
Hier are some examples:

Der Trainer zieht sich daher beim freien Spiel weitestgehend zurück ....

und schließlich die erarbeiteten Angriffsmuster im freien Spiel

und noch einmal unter Spielformen:
Freies Spiel
Proposed translations (English)

Discussion

Elisabeth Moser (asker) Feb 22, 2008:
I thought I had specified it -- at least, if you look at the category, it states soccer. Sorry, I wasn't any clearer.
David Hollywood Feb 21, 2008:
is this about football/soccer? specifying the sport would help a lot :)

Peer comment(s):

agree Ingeborg Gowans (X) : website confirms it; you are spot on/ bend it like Beckham (spelling? I am tired)

disagree Darren Moorby : It sounds more like "open play" to me, though free play does indeed crop up on the Web
