French term

contre-façon

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial
"le fournisseur assure la bonne realisation des marquages contre-façon sur les pieces que xxx precisera". In the context, "counterfeit" or "fake" makes no sense. Robert is silent on any distinction between versions with, or without hyphen. Any ideas?

Discussion

Julie Barber Dec 24, 2007:
meaning what though NewCal? my first thought was labelling on the back side or base....if it was counterfeit, it could be that the supplier isn't the manufacturer...but it doesn't quite seem right!
Ghyslaine LE NAGARD Dec 24, 2007:
Could it be "contre façon"?

anti-counterfeit

I think that this must be anti-counterfeit markings.

Note from asker:
I hadn't thought of counter-counterfeit! Sounds feasible, though. If only authors could be clearer.....

agree Attorney DC Bar : makes sense. Some kind of marking or label to ensure that it's the real McCoy.

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to all: counter-counterfeit makes most sense. Probably no distinction between hyphen and not."

counterfeit

C'est la seule traduction basée sur le texte que vous nous donnez. Si celà ne fait pas de sense, peut-être que l'auteur du texte original a fait une erreur sur le choix du mot ?
Note from asker:
Eh bien, possiblement. Contre-face makes more sense, since you wouldn't want to put a label on the visible side. Another spell-check triumph??

against copies / imitations

counterfeits are imitations with the intention to defraud. Imitations do not look 100% like the original and are meant to make a cheaper product available. They want a specific "mark" to be well visible and distinctive to draw attention that the product is the original and not an imitation or a copy.

countermarks

If the supplier modifies parts made by another supplier, and marked accordingly, maybe he countermarks them with his own mark.
