sparse beautyとは直訳すれば、「まばらな美」？ でしょうか？
Angelicoの作品も見たのですが、どちらかというと、「色彩豊か」で、美に満ちているような印象を受けましたが。

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

ひょっとしたら、これは【空間の美】について言ってるかなとも思います。【まばら】はそこに隙間、空間が存在するとも解釈できるように思います。上記3人の画家と空間をGoogleに入力すると結構ヒットします。以下は例です。

その後考え続けた末、思いついたのですが、これは、イタリア語でこのような場合に使われる「bellezza rarefatta」という表現に当たるものではないでしょうか。
rarefatto(a) は、「希薄な」のほかに「繊細な」「高雅な」というような意味を持つ形容詞です。もしそうだとすれば、「繊細な美しさ」とでも訳すことができると思います。

確かに、Fra Angelicoの作品をRothkoやTurrellの作品に結びつけるのは難しいようですが、強いて言えば、いずれも光を意識した作風なのではないでしょうか。三者に共通して、光の投影の仕方が神秘的だといえないこともないと思います。

色数を限定した美
「抑制された色彩の美」とするのは意訳に過ぎるでしょうか？
フラアンジェリコの実物の絵画の見れば色調が結構渋いことに気がつきます。

色彩に限定した回答をしてしまいましたが、全体的な特徴を表しているなら、簡素な美、簡潔な美、といった言葉が浮かびます。

淡白な美（しさ）
後は想像ですが、「繊細さにはつながらない」のなら、どちらかというと「控えめ」な存在感という感じでしょうか？強く主張することなく、圧迫感や押し付けがましさがなく、静かに淡々と訴えかけてくるような作品ですか？後で見てみますね。

一つに気になるのは、anticipated various modern artists, including Mark Rothko and James Turrellとつながっていることです。 Turrellに関してはよく知りませんが、Rothkoというと、キャンバスを一色に塗りつぶすような、抽象画が思い浮かびます。「神秘的」と言えなくはないですが、「繊細な」にはつながらないような気もします。もちろん、この場面では、焦点はFra Angelicaの作風の方に当たっているとは思うのですが（anticipateは「予見する／先駆けとなる」といった意味にとらえましたが）。
