Discussion

Brigitte Albert (X) Sep 18, 2007:
I think both Stephen and Ingeborg are right here: IMO, "any discussion of artistic merit (of the item(s) being discussed) is pointless because it has no artistic merit." or something along those lines..
Astrid Elke Witte (asker) Sep 18, 2007:
I provided the further information for your further suggestion on how to translate the term.
Astrid Elke Witte (asker) Sep 18, 2007:
No, you couldn't guess - that is why I informed you of the overall context.
Stephen Sadie Sep 18, 2007:
how were we supposed to guess that, there was no refernce to pornography at all on this page???
Astrid Elke Witte (asker) Sep 18, 2007:
It is the subject of the entire translation.
Stephen Sadie Sep 18, 2007:
where is pornography mentioned ?
Astrid Elke Witte (asker) Sep 18, 2007:
Context I doubt if this will help much: "Eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Kunstvorbehalt erübrigt sich." (further context: because the subject in question is not artistic)
Stephen Sadie Sep 18, 2007:
astrid - please provide context to make this a more reasonable question

NO

artistic licence would be "Künstlervorbehalt", I understand your term to mean having something against (possibly a grudge) art

or reservations at least
Note from asker:
A statement is being made that "Kunstvorbehalt" is not of relevance here, because pornography is not classified as art.

reservation (whether to accept ...as art or not)

from the further context I assume that it has to be decided (or rather not) whether something wqualifies as art which pornography evidently does not. So the idea of "Vorbehalt" is more reservation here imho

@ Stephen: not to worry! Maybe this isn't the right term after all?
