Cilian O'Tuama Jun 8, 2007:
will you pay my taxi fare to your last question? :-)

Jonathan MacKerron Jun 8, 2007:
Ethics committees do not approve/disapprove studies as such, they review them and issue an evalution/opinion/decision. They do make suggestions, but strictly speaking, only health authorities approve/disappove.
Lesley Burgon (asker) Jun 8, 2007:
this expression is used in different parts of the text - it simply means that a particular drug has been approved by the ethics committee of a medical association - I simply want to know if there is a standard way of saying this when talking of new drugs which have been approved of - positive evaluation, maybe? Sorry I can't give more precise context.

Where is the context?

have used "received a positive decision" for ethics committees
Peer comment(s):

neutral sci-trans : I would definitely opt for *approved*: it is a concise word and has the same meaning. The other expressions are rather clumsy in my view.

disagree, depends very much on the specific context. Health authorities, ethics committees etc. all have their own jargon

Maybe you even had it "PERfectly correctly..."
Peer comment(s):

disagree Cilian O'Tuama : perhaps the added context was given after you made your suggestion, but for the reasons cited above I have to disagree.
