Reply to Wilman Thank you. Can you think of any other Cantonese slangs that mean "brawny guy"?
Wilman Mar 27, 2007:
'tie han' can used for someone with physical fitness. The other terms I have are '坚佬、劲佬、'fit'佬 (kin lou, king lou, and 'fit' lou).
Mavericker (X) (asker) Mar 27, 2007:
Can I use the term "tie han" as an abbreviation for "zheng zheng tie han"?
redred Mar 27, 2007:
I advise you post the questions in Chinese forum, in where there are some Cantonese people.

tai chek lou:大只佬, which describes physical appearance, a very strong man. Tai Lou: 大佬, somewhat sub-culture meaning.

Question for Wilman and other Cantonese-speaking members Hello. I'm still looking for as many slangs for "tough guy" as possible. While I'm waiting for other responses, are there any other members here who speak Cantonese I should contact?
Wilman Mar 26, 2007:
'da jai' and 'lan jie' have negative connotations usually used for gangsters while 'tai lou' and 'tai koh' are not exactly 'tough guy' but more like 'big brother'. Sorry, I can't think of anything else yet.
Mavericker (X) (asker) Mar 26, 2007:
Response to Wilman Here are some Cantonese slangs I found elsewhere for "tough guy":
'da jai,' 'Tai Lou' and 'Tai Koh' nad 'lan jie'.

Mavericker (X) (asker) Mar 22, 2007:
response to wilman Hello Wilman-do you know any other slang terms that mean the same thing as "tai chek lou"?
Wilman Mar 22, 2007:
In Cantonese, 'Dai Chek Gong' carries a negative connotation usually used for someone who has empty talks while Tai Chek Lou is for someone who has physical toughness.
Mavericker (X) (asker) Mar 22, 2007:
More slang synonyms Two slang terms I found were "Tai Chek Lou" and "Dai Chek Gong", which mean "tough guy" and/or "brawny guy". Does anyone know any other slang synonyms for these terms?

A shorter way is called 硬汉。
zheng zheng tie han is another alternation.
Note from asker:
Thank you. Can you please post the pinyin for that term?
Is there a shorter way to say "zheng zheng tie han"?
